ABSTRACT
This study was carried at St Kizito High School Namugongo, the manual system used lead to problems like; data loss, misplacement disclosure of the confidential data to unauthorized retrival, and others. It therefore calls for a security for data by design of a computerized database system and this will ease the work for the staff. A computerized Academic Records Information Management System (ARIMS) was designed to store, update, edit, and follow up students’ details and staff and secure confidential information for the school. Also cater for the newly accepted client under the department. The researcher collected data using questionnaires, interviews and observation. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS to verify the data into simple percentage which was presented in the form of tables and charts. The database was created using MySQL and users accessed it over a Dreamweaver interface. On all the machines a shared document folder was created and this folder enabled that all important information was stored to ensure that non authorized users did not access it. The researcher tested using Unit Testing and converted the system using direct conversion and parallel method where the new system was installed as the old system was still in place. The researcher recommended that the employees should be taught how to use the system, passwords should be made private to those are supposed to use them, for the purpose of security, and the institution should also ensure a backup is created periodically.
